TOYOTA PLANT TOUR – CAMBRIDGE

The OJOA has scheduled a tour of the Toyota car manufacturing plant in Cambridge. https://tmmc.ca/en/plant-tour/ Some of us took the tour a couple of weeks ago and we definitely recommend this opportunity for the rest of the OJOA membership.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) is a significant player in the Canadian auto manufacturing sector. They have three separate production lines (two in Cambridge, one in Woodstock) and have earned the most production quality awards of any auto plant in North America. These three facilities, requiring a direct investment from Toyota of $7.9 billion, have built 11 million vehicles since their initial opening in 1988.
The Cambridge plants produce the Lexus NX, RX350, RX350h, RX500h, and the Toyota RAV4. 480 of just the RX models roll off the line every day! To put that into Jaguar perspective, that is more daily production than the best month ever of combined US/Canada I-Pace sales
Here is a point listing of the OJOA event:
• 11:30 — Meet at the Moose Winooski restaurant https://moosewinooskis.com/ at 20 Heldmann Rd (Sportsworld Crossing) in Kitchener. Mention that you are a member of the Ontario Jaguar club to join our group seating.
• Moose Winooski’s is only 3 km north of highway 401 from the Kitchener hwy 8 exit.
• 1:15 — We will drive the 6 km (10 minutes) to the Toyota visitor center (1055 Fountain St. N., gate 2).
• 1:40 — We must assemble at the security office to receive our parking passes and for ID check. Each participant must have photo ID with them.
• 2:00 — The tour starts and will last approximately 90 minutes.
• Our maximum capacity for the tour is 38, and all participants names MUST be registered no later than 7 DAYS BEFORE THE TOUR. These are Toyota requirements and the OJOA has no option but to comply. There will be no further admissions allowed once we reach 38, or after June 12.
• In order to register, please contact Allan Lingelbach alingelbach394@gmail.com with your name and the name of whoever may be accompanying you. Please do so asap! If we reach our maximum, participation will be prioritized on when the emailed request arrived.
• The tour is free.
• No cellphones or cameras are allowed on the tour. They must be checked in and retrieved after the tour.
• Walking distances are minimal since we will be shuttled through the plant on trams. Wheelchair accessibility will not be provided unless requested in advance. No children under the age of 8 are allowed.
• Each of us will be given audio devices so that we can easily hear the narration from the tour guide.
While none of these new cars coming off the assembly line will be sporting a growler on the grill, this should prove to be an informative education on how modern autos are produced. We encourage as many members as limits will allow to take advantage of this OJOA outing.
